Saturday, November 27th

Again, these plants just wont stop growing.

The plant in the humus is now 12 centimeters tall and a pretty green color. The sand now has three plants. The heights of the three plants are 12 centimeters, 9 centimeters, and 8 centimeters. They are growing quickly, but I wonder why they are still a yellowish color instead of green? Can you think of any reason this may happen?

The humus does have another bean trying to sprout out. Can you see it?

The pebbles and clay have still made no changes since the last time you saw them. Did you predict that would happen? The topsoil has one plant that is now 10 1/2 centimeters and trying to sprout a second plant.

Which soil appears to being doing the best job?

Thursday, November 25th (THANKSGIVING)

WOW!! Look how they changed just from yesterday. Humus is on the left and topsoil is on the right. Can you see the root systems? Which soils can you see roots in? Which soils do not have roots? If the plant has roots what does that mean? Do roots help the plant grow or keep the plants from growing? Does this picture make you think your hypothesis may be wrong?

Humus still has only one bean that sprouted and it has grown to be 10 1/2 centimeters tall now and is a nice green color. Sand has two bean that have sprouted. One plant is 6 1/2 centimeters and the other is 10 1/2 centimeters tall. The tallest is already as tall as the one plant that is growing in the humus. The only difference is it is not as green. The plants in the sand are more of a yellow green color.

Nothing has changed with the beans in the pebbles or the clay. They look the same as they did Tuesday in class. The topsoil has one bean that has grown to be 8 centimeters tall.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. I will see you guys soon!!

Wednesday, November 24th Observations

Here is a picture of all of them from left to right you have humus, sand, pebbles, clay and topsoil. Look how fast the bean in the humus is growing it has doubled in size since just yesterday. I gave each plant 20 mL of water today and placed them back in the sun.

Today one bean in the humus has grown to 7 1/2 centimeters tall. Wow, its really growing fast!

The sand has three beans trying to sprout. Maybe tomorrow we will have leaves. We will have to see.

Still not much happening with the beans planted in the pebbles and clay.

One bean in the topsoil is started to sprout.

Don't forget to come back tomorrow and see how they change tonight. Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Eat lots of turkey or better yet EAT BEEF!!!!
